Pablo Rodríguez
Scientific Director for Internet
Pablo Rodríguez has been the Scientific Director for Internet in Telefónica I+D since 2006. Before this, he spent 13 years in the United States, England, Switzerland and France working as a researcher and entrepreneur, first in the prestigious Bell-Labs, New Jersey and then for Microsoft Research, Cambridge.
Professional Career
- He worked as a researcher for Microsoft Research. During this time, he developed the Microsoft P2P Avalanche system and led various projects in the areas of Internet content distribution, wireless networks, and large scale distributed systems. He was also involved in measurement studies of very popular services, such as the Windows Update system, Xbox live, and FolderShare.
- Prior to Microsoft, he was a Member of Technical Staff at Bell-Labs (Murray Hill, NJ).
- Previously he worked as a software architect for several start-ups in Silicon Valley, such as Inktomi (purchased by Yahoo!) and Tahoe Networks (now a part of Nokia).
Academic Qualifications
- PhD in Computer Science from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL, Lausanne)
- Master's Degree in Telecommunications Engineering from King's College in London.
- B.S./M.S. in Telecommunications Engineer from the Universidad Pública de Navarra.
Awards and Recognitions
- ACM/Sigcomm best paper award in the Internet Measurement Conference (2007)
- Gold Medal Award, for outstanding scientific career. Langreo. Asturias (2006)
- Prix de la Recherchefor outstanding scientific research, France, (2000).
- Marie Curie Award (1997).
Pablo holds more than 20 patents. He is the General Chairman for ACM/SIGCOMM'09; a member of the editorial board for IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking (ToN), and editor for ACM Computer Communications Review SIGCOMM/CCR. He is also a steering committee member for IEEE/HotWeb, and has been the editor for IEEE/JSAC special issue on P2P streaming.
