Data Mining, Machine Learning, Audio Processing and Time Series Analysis
Joan Serrà is an associate researcher with Telefónica I+D. His main research interests lie in the fields of data mining, machine learning and evolutionary computation. He typically deals with time series, complex networks, tags, audio and health-related data, but he also works, to a lesser extent, with social and multimedia data. Before joining Telefónica, Joan obtained his MSc (2007) and PhD (2011) in computer science from Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona. During that time, he was also an adjunct professor (2006-2011) with the Dept. of Information and Communication Technologies of the same university. He did his postdoc (2011-2015) in Artificial Intelligence at IIIA-CSIC, the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute of the Spanish National Research Council in Bellaterra, Barcelona. Joan has been involved in more than 10 research projects, funded by Spanish and European institutions, and co-authored over 70 publications, some of them highly-cited and in top-tier journals and conferences, in diverse scientific areas. He also regularly acts as peer reviewer for some of those and other publications.
